The Question:

Today was the first time I tried to do a one arm push up. And guess what! I did it. I did one push up on the right side and one on the left side. My question is if I want to be able to do possibly more than one, what other type of shoulder exercises to build strength should I do. I'm currently doing shoulder presses, delt raises, rear delt raises, front raises and upright rows. Or what amount of weight should I being doing for each that would increase strength eventually. Thanks.

The Answer:

Congratulations, it's always fun to do one arm pushups. You should get on the 3 or 4 Day Strength and Power Express programs for everything you will need to maximize your upper body strength levels. There are other muscles involved in doing one arm pushups than just your shoulders. Your Triceps and your Chest and believe it or not your abdominal muscles are also involved. If you are just starting out with a lifting program and you would like to focus only on your upper body you should go into the "Dan's Custom Favorites" section and choose the 3 Day General Fitness Upper Body Only Program. Let me know how it goes!
